What Makes Good Snow Skiing Skis?

Here’s a helpful quote about what makes good snow skiing skis for anyone who may be thinking that its easier, cheaper and better to make their own skis. Anyways, they’re just a couple of planks of wood strapped to your feet, aren’t they? (NOT!)

“The behaviour of a ski is directly related to its longitudinal flex pattern and damping
properties, and the performance of a ski depends mainly on its torsional rigidity. These
characteristics depend mostly on core material and thickness. A direct correlation
between the stiffness of the core and stiffness of a ski cannot be made, due to the
composite nature of a ski. This paper analyses the contribution of the core material and
thickness to the final stiffness of the ski, by comparing the flexural stiffness, damping
properties, and torsional rigidity of 5 skis with various core thicknesses and materials…”

…O..O..O..OOOh-Kay!

Maybe buying a decent pair of snow skiing skis from a reputable maufacturer IS the simplest answer after all! ;)

Your snow skiing skis will be a big part of your investment in the skiing gear overall. It’s right to take some time and research the pros and cons of different brands, models and makes. Your final choice will be influenced not only by your budget but also by the level of your skiing experience and proficiency.

If you are a beginner skier then you may not want to buy the highest performance ski on the market! You’d be better off choosing a model that helps you, in their use, to build your confidence and develop your ability so that you can work towards a step up the skiing skis ladder as you grow as a skier.

Unless you do have more money than sense, you are probably best advised to start your skiing experience relying on one of the many ski-hire specialist you will find in the skiing resorts of your choice. They will be able to help you select an ideal skiing ski for your needs at the time of your skiing vacation, and you’ll be able to try different ski models and types as your experience grows.

Ultimately you might decide to buy your own set of snow skiing skis. But this should be only if you know your ability and frequency of skiing makes it a resonable thing to invest in.
